How To Join

Membership with Local 484

These are not matters to be taken lightly. Be sure you understand the commitment required to work professionally in this industry and within this Local as a contributing member.

THE BASICS

Becoming a member means while working on a union production, you will have full union representation that includes guaranteed rates and paid benefits.

  • The Business Manager will release updates on projects within our jurisdiction that
include contact information for you to reach out to.
  • Texas and Oklahoma are right-to-work states, therefore you will come across plenty of independent features; members are required to report their work regardless of union status or the size of the production. This helps us monitor the benefits you’re eligible for.

Local 484 does not prohibit you from working on independent productions.

Members are expected to participate in the local by attending monthly membership meetings and are encouraged to join committees.

LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP

Once you join the Local, you are a member of IATSE for life.

  • If you are expelled or take an honorable withdrawal, you will be removed from the referral list and owe back dues to the Local and the International upon rejoining.

BENEFITS COVERAGE

The IATSE National Benefit Funds will process all benefits accrued on union projects.

  • All coverage information may be found by contacting their office in New York at 1 (800) 456-3863 or www.iatsenbf.org

Finding Work

Local 484 is not a hiring hall. You are responsible for finding work yourself.

  1. Networking
Networking will be your primary action for securing jobs. A list of current union features is
available to all journeymen in good standing.
  2. Referral Lists
The Local also generates Referral Lists of all journeymen in good standing, which are
distributed by the Business Manager to all union productions within our jurisdiction.
  3. Availability Tracking
You are also asked to Submit Your Availability once a month or whenever your work status
changes, whichever comes first. This helps the Business Manager track the local workforce.
